“Kranewit Theatre, renowned for its poetic and very archaic performances, has been one of the most interesting figurine- and object theaters in germany since its establishment in 2003. Using the most simple materials, such as paper, wood and wire the theatre has developed an independent and unique quality with an empowering aesthetic that creates an astoundingly intense picture language.”

(T-Werk Theatre, Potsdam by Berlin, 2010)

The word “kranewit” was deduced from: Krano = Kranich (crane), Witu = Wood, an old fashioned name for juniper wood, a type of underwood from which the crane eats berries.
Juniper wood is a strongly scented wood type that was often used to protect from bad spirits, illness and all kinds of balefulness…(Hieronymus Bock 1551)

Dried, from the Corbières mountains in France, the wood belongs to the favoured material used by the kranewit theatre.
